The best things to do in Hurghada combine the Red Sea with time in the city, the desert and your hotel. You can take an island boat trip, walk around the marina, visit Hurghada Museum, explore shops and local food, or set aside a day for Cairo or Luxor. You do not need an organized excursion every day.
This guide helps you build a varied holiday, including independent activities as well as bookable programs. For a detailed comparison of our tours, use the excursion-selection guide; for current fares, see the price list. Activity and product information was reviewed on 3 October 2026.
A list of ideas is not a live same-day availability board. Check the actual date, venue access, hotel transport and conditions before setting off. Current tour listings do not guarantee that a place or transfer is available at the moment you enquire.
1. Simple things to do in Hurghada: keep time for the beach and hotel
A relaxed beach or pool day can be part of a good itinerary, especially after travel or a long excursion. Use the facilities included in your own hotel booking, read the local rules and check permitted swimming areas. A beach visible on a map is not automatically open to non-guests.
If you want to visit another beach independently, confirm day-entry permission, the actual charge and which facilities it covers. Do not assume that loungers, towels, meals, equipment or reef access come with a transport fare. Separate the cost of getting there from the right to enter and use the facilities.
For children and less confident swimmers, discuss conditions and supervision rather than judging suitability by a calm-looking photograph. A sandy entry or life jacket does not make every open-water activity appropriate. You can enjoy time beside the sea without committing the whole group to snorkeling.
2. Things to do in Hurghada: walk around Hurghada Marina
The marina promenade offers a change of scene from a resort: waterfront views, moored boats and places to stop for a meal or drink. It can work as a flexible evening outing rather than another full-day booking. Decide how much walking and dining time your group wants before arranging the return journey.
Check menus and the complete price before ordering, and confirm current access or venue arrangements for your visit. This guide does not promise free admission to every area, particular business opening times or a fixed transport fare. A photograph of a restaurant or boat does not confirm what is operating today.
If you are staying outside central Hurghada, plan the journey home as well as the outward ride. Keep the agreed pickup point and contact details accessible. Avoid using a late evening with a fixed return commitment immediately after a long excursion if the timing leaves little room for delay.

The marina guide provides more location context. For official destination background, Egyptian Tourism Authority’s Hurghada city guide identifies the marina promenade, markets and museum among the city’s land-based options.
3. Things to do in Hurghada: explore shops, food and city streets
A short city outing can combine a walk, a meal and browsing for souvenirs without becoming a rigid sightseeing schedule. Choose one area to explore at a comfortable pace rather than assuming every point on a city map is within an easy walk of your hotel.
Set a rough spending limit for purchases, compare the actual items and ask what is included in the quoted amount. You do not have to buy something simply because you entered a shop. When choosing food, check the menu and raise dietary needs directly with the venue instead of relying on a general destination description.
Dress appropriately when visiting cultural or religious places, follow current visitor instructions and ask before photographing people. An exterior sightseeing stop does not guarantee interior access. Avoid planning around an unverified opening time or assuming that every site accepts visitors during all activities or services.
Our city sightseeing guide can help you compare areas. There is no matching city-tour product among the current 20 booking programs, so a city idea here is not a promise of a guided package, entrance ticket or included hotel transfer.
4. Things to do in Hurghada: visit Hurghada Museum
Hurghada Museum offers an archaeological and cultural visit within the city rather than a long drive to Cairo or Luxor. Its displays trace Egyptian history through several periods, including ancient Egyptian, Graeco-Roman, Christian, Islamic and modern material.
Use the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities museum page to check current opening sessions, admission categories, ticket-office deadlines and visitor rules before going. Holiday or Ramadan arrangements can differ, so check the date rather than copying a generic timetable.
Plan the actual journey from your hotel and allow time to browse at the pace your group wants. This is an independent attraction suggestion; the article does not include its admission or transport in the price of another excursion.
For families, consider a focused visit rather than expecting children to see every display. Follow the museum’s instructions about photographs, bags and conduct, and confirm any access assistance you need. A museum visit provides a different experience from underwater viewing or an island day.
5. Things to do in Hurghada: choose a reef-snorkeling experience

A reef boat day can be a central part of a Red Sea holiday, but compare the actual program before choosing. Some trips combine snorkeling with island time; Dolphin House instead focuses on a boat day with three planned snorkeling stops and a search for wild dolphins.
The Dolphin House program is approximately eight hours and includes the listed equipment, lunch, drinks and Hurghada hotel transfers. Wild dolphins are not guaranteed, and no booking gives permission to chase or touch them. Choose the trip because you want its snorkeling day as well as the possibility of an encounter.
Tell the responsible team about swimming confidence and equipment needs before entering the water. A beginner label or flotation device does not establish suitability for every participant or condition. Use the snorkeling comparison and beginner preparation guide to understand the questions worth asking.

Protect the reef by avoiding contact, standing on coral, feeding fish or chasing wildlife. A photograph can illustrate marine life but cannot promise what you will see. Ask what a non-participant can do aboard if your party has different preferences.
6. Things to do in Hurghada: add an island beach day

The Orange Bay trip and Paradise Island trip are separate approximately eight-hour boat programs combining two planned reef stops and island time. They include snorkeling equipment, lunch, drinks and Hurghada hotel transfers, with around two hours at the island under the planned schedule.
Both currently cost €25 for ages 11+ and €15 for ages 4–10, with a free fare for ages 0–3. Ticket age bands do not establish water-activity eligibility. Outside-Hurghada transfer supplements and optional purchases need to be included in your final total.
An island trip already includes snorkeling, so it may cover two of the experiences on your wish list in one day. Do not book an additional generic snorkeling outing simply because the names sound different; compare the actual stops and time allocation.
Water activities are subject to the product and operating conditions. Do not assume a floating aqua park, sofa ride or unlimited games. The Orange Bay planning guide explains the island day in more detail. Giftun-area wording alone does not identify a particular beach admission or an extra island stop.
7. Things to do in Hurghada: see underwater life in a way that suits you

You can choose underwater-window viewing or an introductory diving experience, but they answer different needs. The Panorama semi-submarine has a cabin below sea level while the vessel stays at the surface. The approximately three-hour program includes underwater viewing, a diver show and an optional snorkeling stop.
This can be an option when you want to view without compulsory swimming. Confirm boarding and cabin access if mobility or steps are a concern. “Dry viewing” is not the same as guaranteed accessibility for every traveler.
The introductory scuba program is approximately seven hours with two supervised introductory dives for eligible participants, required equipment, lunch, drinks and Hurghada transfer. The age-11+ fare is €30, but all participation remains subject to the required screening and instructor approval.
Trying scuba does not give you a certification, and certified-diver requests require their own suitable arrangements. Our diving guide explains the alternatives and flight-planning considerations. Choose according to your actual interest and eligibility, not an assumption that going deeper is automatically a better holiday experience.
8. Things to do in Hurghada: experience the desert
The desert provides a different setting from sea days and city evenings. Choose between a focused quad route and a program with several activities. The three-hour quad safari includes an approximately sixty-kilometer route with preparation, village stops, a short camel ride and tea.
The Super Safari program runs approximately six to seven hours, combining quad biking, Spider Buggy, a 4×4 Jeep segment, village time, camel ride, tea, BBQ dinner and an oriental show. It is a different program from the three-hour ride; not every safari ticket includes dinner or every vehicle.

The current age-11+ fare is €25 on either program, with €15 for ages 4–10 and a free fare for ages 0–3. Driving from age ten requires guide approval; younger children participate with an accompanying adult. Suitability must still be checked, and a fare category does not promise a separate vehicle.
Bring your own scarf and protective goggles, as they are not included. Wear closed shoes and follow the program’s preparation instructions. Sunset timing depends on season and operations. The desert safari guide helps compare the programs without treating a VIP label as an automatic upgrade.
9. Things to do in Hurghada: make one major historical day trip

A day outside Hurghada can add ancient sites to a beach holiday, but it is a substantial time commitment. Choose Cairo for Giza and a named museum, or Luxor for temples and royal tombs. If your stay is short, selecting the destination you care about most can be more practical than trying to fit in both.
The Luxor bus trip is approximately fifteen hours, covering Karnak, the Valley of the Kings with three standard tombs, Hatshepsut Temple and the Colossi of Memnon. Standard admissions, an Egyptologist guide, lunch, drinks and Hurghada transfer are included. Special tombs and an optional Nile trip are extra where available.
The Cairo Tahrir Museum and Pyramids bus trip is approximately seventeen hours. The GEM and Pyramids bus trip visits a different museum. Both include their listed standard admissions, guide, lunch, drinks and Hurghada transfer; Great Pyramid interior entry is not included.
Smaller shared mini-bus versions also exist, with a maximum of eight guests compared with thirty on the shared buses. A mini bus is not automatically private. Do not assume a flight option is available: there is no current matching Cairo-flight booking program in this list.
Give these long days space in your itinerary, especially when planning for children or anyone with access or fatigue concerns. Check the exact hotel pickup and expected return, and use the Luxor guide or the individual Cairo booking page for details.
10. Things to do in Hurghada: choose spa time or a shorter activity

You can leave part of a day free by choosing a shorter program. Cleopatra Spa provides approximately two hours at the spa, with hotel transfer taking additional time. The listed program includes bath and heat facilities, scrub, foam massage and full-body massage; confirm the individual massage time and treatment suitability.
If you prefer an active short outing, parasailing has a ten-to-fifteen-minute flight within an approximately one-and-a-half-hour program. Participation depends on crew approval and the relevant weather, weight and harness conditions. A short duration does not establish suitability for every age.
For a private sea outing, the four-hour speedboat is €150 total for one to six guests, including children within capacity. Its specific dolphin-search and snorkeling program is not an unlimited custom route or a dinner yacht. Confirm any optional addition and hotel supplement.
Plan things to do in Hurghada by time, group and budget
Things to do in Hurghada when you have three days
Choose one main sea activity, keep another day for either a desert program or city and museum time, and leave arrival or departure time flexible. An evening walk or meal can provide variety without needing a second paid excursion on the same day.
Things to do in Hurghada when you have five to seven days
You have more room for one long historical outing alongside sea, desert and local activities. Spread demanding days apart and keep hotel time in the plan. An example is arrival and rest, an island day, city or museum time, desert, a free day, a historical trip, then departure time kept clear.
Things to do in Hurghada for families, couples and non-swimmers
Build the plan around actual ages, confidence and preferences. Families may need shorter sessions and predictable meal or rest breaks; couples may value a private group setting or a flexible city evening. Non-swimmers can consider underwater-window viewing and land activities without being pushed toward entering the sea.
Use our family planning guide or couples’ privacy and pace guide for more focused questions. A destination list cannot approve a child’s activity, medical fitness or a particular access arrangement; confirm those needs with the responsible team.

Questions about things to do in Hurghada
Do I need to book an excursion every day?
No. Mix one or more organized experiences with hotel time, city walks, a meal out or an independent museum visit. A less crowded schedule can leave room for rest and changing conditions.
What things to do in Hurghada work without a full-day tour?
Consider marina time, shops and food, Hurghada Museum, your hotel facilities or a shorter listed activity. Confirm transport, access and current opening arrangements for independent visits.
Is Hurghada Marina the departure point for every boat trip?
No. Do not assume a marina or meeting point from a destination guide. Use the pickup and departure details confirmed for your specific booking.
Is visiting Hurghada Museum included in another tour ticket?
Not by this article. It is an independent attraction suggestion. Check the official museum page for current admission and visit arrangements.
Should I book snorkeling and an island trip separately?
Compare the actual programs first. The current Orange Bay and Paradise Island trips already include two planned reef snorkeling stops, so a second outing may repeat an experience you already have.
Which current activity lets me see underwater life without snorkeling?
The Panorama semi-submarine provides underwater-window viewing with an optional snorkeling stop. Confirm boarding, steps and individual access needs.
Are children automatically allowed to dive, drive or fly?
No. Fare categories and activity eligibility are separate. Confirm screening, equipment fit and the responsible guide, instructor or crew’s approval.
What is the private speedboat price?
The current program is €150 for the whole boat for one to six guests, including children within capacity, for approximately four hours. Optional additions and outside-Hurghada transfers need confirmation.
Can I take a short local trip to Cairo or Luxor?
The current road programs are long days: approximately seventeen hours for Cairo and fifteen for Luxor. Choose according to the sites you want and the time your group can manage.
Are Cairo’s two museum options interchangeable?
No. The Egyptian Museum in Tahrir and the Grand Egyptian Museum are different itineraries. Choose the program that names your preferred museum.
What can I do in the evening without a party or nightclub?
A marina walk, a meal out, browsing shops or relaxing at the hotel can provide a quieter evening. Check current venue arrangements and your return transport.
Does a published trip page guarantee a place today?
No. Confirm the date, participants, pickup and availability. This guide is not a live same-day departure board.
Is Sharm El Naga currently bookable with Hurghada Travels?
No. That trip is currently unavailable through us. The destination may have other independent arrangements, but this guide does not offer a booking.
How can I keep things to do in Hurghada varied?
Choose activities that add something different: sea, desert, city, history or relaxation. Check the actual itinerary rather than adding another excursion only because its title differs.
